Two more sterilisations, the story of Husky and Edna

Who are Husky and Edna? You won't have seen much of them on our social media, and for good reason, their time at PawsRescue was very short.
These two females were among the many unspayed dogs in the village. Their sterilisation had become urgent as they had recently mated while in heat and were destined to carry and give birth to new puppies if we don’t do anything. The future of puppies born in these conditions is to survive, nothing more. They are neglected and sometimes mistreated, we couldn't allow that to happen.
So we went to find Husky and Edna with the help of the local people. The promise we made to bring them back as soon as they recovered convinced them to entrust them to us.
After a day in quarantine, Edna's condition was worrying. We suspected a pyometra (uterine infection). She was rushed to hospital and this possibility was ruled out. In the meantime, Husky was the perfect patient, calm and cooperative, during an ultrasound scan to find out a little more about her general condition. The Edna’s condition stabilised and the vet gave the go-ahead for the operation the following day.
Once the operation had been carried out, they spent a few days under supervision to ensure they made a great and speedy recovery! We were then able to take them back to the village so that they could be back to their lives with their humans without risking the many problems caused by successive pregnancies.
To the question ‘Why just have them sterilised and not put them up for adoption?’, we can answer that Husky and Edna have humans in the village who love them. Despite their lack of resources, they look after them as best they can. Husky, who still needed painkillers on her return, was given them by her attentive owner.
Sterilisation is our biggest battle and now our main focus. This obviously applies to stray dogs, but also to domestic dogs. If you would like more information on the importance of neutering, the next post will be dedicated to this subject. Keep an eye on the website so you don't miss out!
